May 2022 Newsletter

Last month, I took to the House floor to call for upholding Roe v. Wade, protecting women’s reproductive health, and supporting our state partners who provide quality healthcare. I was told by my Republican colleagues that we were wasting time talking about women’s reproductive rights, but unfortunately the news in recent weeks has shown exactly why standing up for women’s freedoms will never be a waste of time.

The reports that the Supreme Court may overturn Roe vs. Wade are devastating. Women will face a heightened health risk when they seek an abortion, but more frequently they will risk their freedom and financial well-being as states make abortion a criminal offense.

We can’t afford to be complacent now. I’m proud that Illinois has already codified the right to choose and I’m thankful that our state can be a safe place for our surrounding neighbors to turn to, but I’m also committed to fighting like hell to protect this fundamental freedom.

If you are interested in adopting Onyx (or any of her friends), check out PAWS Chicago!

Small Business Shoutout

Every month we highlight one small business from our district. For May, we are thrilled to feature JuiceRx.

“JuiceRx has been setting the industry standard in superior juices for over a decade. Having personally experienced the healing power of cold-pressed juices, we recognized the need to make these nutrient-dense drinks readily available to the public.”

If you have a favorite store, restaurant, or other business in the district for future Small Business Shoutouts, let us know!
