December 2021 Newsletter

2021 is officially coming to an end! I hope you’ve been able to enjoy some of the many special holiday events the 12th District has to offer.

Unfortunately, the recent surge of COVID-19 cases from both the Delta and Omicron variants is reminiscent of this time last year. Unlike last year though, we have access to vaccines that are proving time and time again to keep us safe and prevent serious illness.

I saw a post online the other day that said something along the lines of:

“Seeing loved ones this year isn’t necessarily about what we might catch from them, but rather the fear of what we might be giving instead.”

In the spirit of the holiday season, I hope we can go into 2022 with a mindset of:

“What can I do to care for those around me?”

As you prepare your holiday plans, please schedule your booster shot if you haven’t already. Learn more about the booster shot and where to receive one.

I also want to address the increased crime in our city and in our neighborhoods. Violent robberies and carjackings feel like they’re at an all time high and many folks are rightfully worried about their safety. Your safety is, and will always be, my highest priority. I assure you that my colleagues and I are working on finding city, county, and statewide solutions to stop the uptick in violence

My office will have a number of events coming up in the new year geared towards crime and safety. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and we will send email updates as well.

As always, please feel free to contact my office if you need any assistance or have any questions.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

COVID-19 Update

Starting January 3rd, the City of Chicago will require proof of COVID-19 vaccination for certain indoor public places. Chicago is currently seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases, and we need everyone to do their part and get vaccinated.

Toy Drives in IL-12!

Throughout December, my office has had the pleasure of working with various groups and organizations around our district to spread holiday cheer. Thank you to the North Dearborn Association, the 018th District Community Policing Department, Weiss Memorial Hospital, and the House of Good Shepherd for partnering with us!

I want to also thank all of you for your generous donations. The holiday season is a great time to give back and I am thankful to represent a district that truly embraces the spirit of giving! I am grateful for all the work we have done together to bring joy to children in our neighborhoods.

Past Events

Lighting of the Menorah

It was a privilege to join Governor JB Pritzker, State Senator Sara Feigenholtz, State Representative Bob Morgan, and the Jewish community of Chicago earlier this month during Hanukkah to celebrate the lighting of the Menorah at the James R. Thompson Center.

The Illinois Cannabis Education Center

We welcomed Cresco Labs’ first on-site cannabis training and education center – the Illinois Cannabis Education Center (ICEC)! This new center will provide hands-on training and effective resources to our community.

Alderperson Michele Smith, Sergeant Chris Schenk, the Gold Coast Neighbors Association, and I joined the 018th District Police Commander John Hein at the Gold Coast Walk and Talk. We walked the streets of the Gold

Coast with local residents to hear about their concerns and learn from Commander Hein’s guidance.
